Apr 23 – Naphlion

Today we were supposed to be in Santorini today.  Unfortunately, the weather report for the island was for extreme winds.  And since we would need to tender in the ship’s captain decided it was too dangerous to go there.  So, within short order Crystal had us booked for Naphlion and four shore excursions organized.

We had visited Naphlion on our month long trip to Greece in 2018 and loved this place.  We had even identified Naphlion as a place were we would like to spend a week and needed a place to work when we were homeless.

We had already seen nearly everything on the four excursions that had been organized so we had opted out of any Crystal excursions and were planning on just going ashore for lunch.  However, the day dawned a bit drizzly and overcast so we decided to stay on board ship.

About five o’clock we noticed that the sky was an odd shade of orange.  Too early for sunset.  Turns out the color was from sands that were being blown up into Greece from the Sahara Desert in Africa.  How interesting.

This evening we had another wonderful performance by Naki Atalan, “Somewhere in Time.”  He played non-stop for 45 minutes, a medley of songs across several decades.  A masterful performance by him and the ship’s bassist and percussionist.
